Digital working

My mother is a painter, driven only by her passion. She will attend an exibition in May, and she asked me some business cards. Consequence? One email address, one deviantART profile selling the prints from her pictures, and finally the business cards :)

All my experience in shooting photo for my stores, multiple business card designing and Gimp knowledge was very useful in this occasion...my mother only painted :P :)
Now she is very proud of her new business cards (and also for having a daughter like me :) ), and all her companion painters will be green for envy :)
My secret plan? Trying to earn some money doing custom orders business cards for the envious painters ^^

See the past through the eyes of Beritnewyork

Her eyes are pointed on the past, but her hands give the future. Native American and frontiersman accessories, celtic art, Middle Age vestments, vintage atmospheres...this is only a little list of what you can find in her shops!
In her words: every piece has a story from the most elaborate tale to the littlest dream.

1) Handmaking makes you feel?

I have this saying “To make handmade, is the honour the past.” I believe it applies to my whole philosophy on life. We live in a generation full of technology and mass production yet many of us feel unsatisfied. I think is has a lot to do with the fact that most of the things we buy are not made by human hands but rather by machines. It is like we loose a sense of realness or personal touch. Handmaking adds so much honour and uniqueness to an item. It gives life to a product that would other wise be lost in the crowd. So yeah, my main goal with handmaking is to bring back this lost art form and to honour the ways of old.

2) What material do you use?

I mainly use fabric, mostly velvets, silks, cotton, and plastics/PVC. I use beads and other decorative objects for accents and I also enjoy working with vintage materials as well.
Why?
I work with these materials largely because I have been crafting with fabric ever since I was a child. It is a medium that I know a lot about and I tend to incorporate it into everything!

3) What is your favorite item now in your shop?

My favourite item in my DaWanda shop would be my leather belt with a pouch bag attached to it. I also have a lot of items listed on Etsy and I would say my favourite item from there would be my flower broad rimed hat.

4) Your keyword treating with buyers?

I like to treat my buyers as if they were something to be treasured, so I usually say “to my treasured buyers” when making important announcements. I also like to use the word “greetings” because it is reminiscent of a popular medieval welcome “greetings and well met.”

5) Have something more to tell?

I will end with saying this. I believe that when it comes to my personal style, I tend to like balanced design and lots of details. My style is not simplistic, although I do respect simplicity in many aspects of my life designing is not one of them. I do not complete an item until I am fully satisfied with its details from the inside out.

I believe in not just creating something but in actually inventing new ways of seeing, wearing or using things. I strive to make my work reflect these beliefs.

1) Handmaking make you feel....?

Useful and creative and productive

2) What material do you use? Why?

pmc - .99 silver intrigues me

3) What is your favorite item now in your shop?

The coral necklace

4) Your keyword treating with buyers?

I try to be professional and efficient with buyers - buyers are like distant friends. The golden rule - treat them as you would want to be treated.

5) Have something more to tell?

I started my creative journey in technical theatre in college. Then I took coursework in graphic design and did that for 20 some years. When I moved to Portland with my husband I got interested in beading, first beadweaving and eventually making my own glass beads.

Soft sensations from Maine Woods Yarn & Fiber

You can find the nature in their wool: the blue of the seacost, the brown and the green of the white birch trees and the accents of the orchards on a very soft merino wool. The colors are natural, and anyone can learn how to make his personal fiber!

1. Handmaking make you feel...?

Handmaking gives me an appreciation for the talent and labor involved in creating items that long ago did not use our modern conveniences. Spinning, dying and knitting are very ancient crafts.

2. What material do you use? Why?

I use merino/wool blends for its softness and spin yarns with both drop spindles and spinning wheels. I like to do things the original, natural way. I sometimes use plant fibers for dyes.

3. What is your favorite item now in your shop?

My favorite item in my shop has to be my drop spindle kits.
It is the oldest way yarn was spun, even before spinning wheels. Ancient tribes would tie a rock to a stick to make a spindle in order to spin yarn from animal fibers.

4. Your keyword treating with buyers?

My keyword is "opportunity". The buyer has the opportunity to learn to make their own yarns and can take it anywhere & spin.

5. Have something more to tell?

Very soon I will be coming out with sock knitting kits which will include my handpainted yarn, handcrafted needles and full instuctions as well as our locker hooking kits which uses our hand dyed wool to make rugs with beautiful designs. Actually, my husband spins yarn also and does most of the woodworking part of our business.

Kalicat and her jewelled art!

Designer and jeweller, Catherine Marche aka Kalicat make your dreams come to reality: custom orders are welcome, but she is so creative that you will soon dream her creations!

Contacts: Blog and DaWanda Shop

I will now call on Kalicat...

1) Handmaking make you feel...?

Handmaking makes me feel creative, happy and fulfilled, especially when I deal with a custom order. I think it is fantastic to have the ability to make client's dream come true, which is very exciting with jewellery like wedding rings or engagement rings, with all the emotions linked to these.

2) What material do you use? Why?

I use precious metals like 18K gold and sterling silver as they are timeless and have a beautiful quality when working with them, which is that you can give them several different finishes and textures. Their color also enhances greatly the gemstones I use.

3) What is your favorite item now in your shop?

I quite like the Blue pond Ring

as the circle of yellow gold enhances so much the blue of the topaz. This ring sits beautifully on the finger and can be worn more often than a dress ring.

4) Your keyword treating with buyers?

Quality, good communication

5) Have something more to tell?

Buying online can be "scary" and if a clinet is not happy, I offer to exchange or pay back the item.

A window on Glassprimitif 's world!

Let's be fascinated by this shining pieces of art!
In her works we can find influences by primitive symbolism melted together with soft and delicate shapes: a very pleasant view!
Contacts: Blog and DaWanda shop

And now i will call on Glassprimitif...

1) Handmaking make you feel....?

I love "hand made" because every item of glass I make is unique. I can make similar pieces but never the exact same design.

2) What material do you use? Why?

My favourite material is glass because it is tactile, fragile, tough, warm, cool and so adaptable.

3) What is your favorite item now in your shop?

This is my favourite item in my shop at the moment

because these earrings are fun, bright and most importantly, red!

4) Your keyword treating with buyers?

The key word has to be great customer service. Becoming a seller on different hand made sites has taught me that selling on-line is a social event and the people I sell to are real, not just a name in cyberspace. I love receiving pretty, well wrapped presents and I hope my customers do too.

5) Have something more to tell?

I started my shop on Dawanda in September 2007 but, because of slow sales and becoming busy on Etsy, I stopped listing. Then I met seven wonderful glass artists and we have formed the team Glass Anarchy. We looked at different hand made sites and chose Dawanda as our selling site. Coming back to Dawanda has been a surprise for me as there have been so many changes. The forums seem livelier and I like the new feature to email pinboards to friends. Glass Anarchy is a very new team, only a few days old, but we have received some lovely feedback from other Dawandans. Our aim is to promote our glass, both individually and collectively and yo make new friends on Dawanda. How do you spot a glass anarchist? Check out the word Glass Anarchy in tags!
